A useful marketing budget starts with the work your business wants to win, not a universal percentage or a promise that “one job pays for everything.” Separate the fee for the work from the budget that buys advertising.

Start with the complete monthly investment

TreeSignal’s single-location Complete Growth service fee is $1,500 per month. Advertising is funded separately through your account. A $1,000 advertising budget makes the combined monthly investment $2,500. Website rebuilds or other separately scoped projects are additional when agreed.

Use job contribution, not the whole invoice

Suppose an additional job invoices at $2,500 and contributes 35% after its direct costs. The contribution is $875, not $2,500. On those assumptions, a $2,500 marketing investment needs three incremental completed jobs to cover it. Other fixed costs and your profit target still matter.

These are illustrative assumptions, not tree-industry benchmarks. Replace them with your own job mix and real costs. Our planning calculator lets you try the calculation.

Ongoing care needs its own time frame

For plant health care, evaluate the contribution earned over a defined care period alongside the acquisition investment, fulfillment costs, renewals, and payback time. Do not treat a full year of contract revenue as immediate monthly contribution. We agree on that measurement with you rather than labeling every inquiry a removal lead.

Ask what the fee actually covers

Count original content pieces, channels, campaign limits, service locations, development scope, and review rounds. Eight posts adapted to two channels are not sixteen separately produced pieces. A basic website update is not a complete rebuild.

Budget for useful measurement

A count of form submissions is only a starting point. Which were in your area? Which needed a service you offer? Which became an estimate or a job? Agree on tracking and a way to share that feedback before judging the campaign.

Compare fit, not just price

Ask to see the service scope, a clear explanation of responsibilities, and the limits of any claimed results. Rankings and lead volumes should not be guaranteed. Your territory, reputation, site history, and capacity make the context different from another company’s.
